Current Series: Jesus Never Said That

The teachings of Jesus shape us as disciples, helping guide us toward life in God’s reality. It’s important that we know what Jesus said; what he taught his disciples about life and love. But just as important as knowing what Jesus said is recognizing what he didn’t say. Far too often, Jesus is painfully misquoted, with religious cliches and catch-phrases wrongly attributed to him. You’ve probably heard some of these: "hate the sin, love the sinner” or “God won’t give you more than you can handle.” They might sound biblical, but spoiler alert—they’re not.

In our upcoming sermon series, Jesus Never Said That, we’ll unpack several of these common misquotes. Because while these statements might seem wise on the surface, they can actually distort our faith and weaken our witness to Christ.

New to First Presbyterian?

Here at First Pres, we aim to be a warm, intergenerational community of Christ followers that welcome all people (and we do mean everyone!) to worship God and grow in faith. We’re just a bunch of imperfect people, committed to following Jesus and learning how to love one another more fully. We keep the mission of our church pretty simple; love God, love one another, love neighbor, and make disciples. It might be simple, but we’ve decided that’s enough to give our lives to! We hope you’ll join us.
